ENES 140: Discovering New Ventures – Foundations of Entrepreneurship
Explore dynamic business and technology topics by working in teams to design a new business. This exciting multi-disciplinary course helps you learn the basic business, strategy, and leadership skills needed to launch new ventures. You’ll also learn how to assess the feasibility of a startup venture, as well as how to apply best practices for planning, launching, and managing new companies. Learn to recognize opportunities, assess the skills and talents of successful entrepreneurs, and learn models and “rules of thumb” that help navigate uncertainty. Field trips to area start-up companies show how new ventures actually operate in today’s climate. Interactions with guest speakers further enrich the classroom experience. Enrollment limit: 35. The course is taught by James Green, program director of the Hinman CEOs Program at the University of Maryland. He serves a dual role of teaching courses in entrepreneurship and coaching students in their new ventures. Green holds an MBA from the University of Michigan, an MS of technology management from the University of Maryland University College, and a BS of industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His professional experience includes founder and executive roles with several new ventures.
